IN THE DEPTHS OF THE ENGLISH COTSWOLDS LURKS... THE ELECTROFLIGHT ELECTRIC PLANE

AIR FANS, YOU WILL WANT TO WATCH THIS VIDEO for here's the aviation equivalent of a Tesla electric car.

AND JUST as Tesla electric cars are starting to change the face of motoring - there are even recharging points on the motorways - so aircraft like the Electroflight single-seater will surely do the same for the world of flight.

Big manufacturers such as the European Airbus company are already exploring electric aircraft, but the machine in this video is being developed in the depths of the English Cotswolds, a part of the country that's more often known for pretty stone villages and tourist traps than it is for high tech.

Of course, there are plenty of old airfields scattered across this part of England, and today the huge Brize Norton is a prime Royal Air Force base. Even so, uncovering the Electroflight was something of a surprise, and a pleasant one too, for the final aircraft should be quiet and non-polluting.

And those are features that are just what's required of aircraft large and small in times to come.
