SIMON'S CAT - FROM SIMPLE LINE TO DELICATE SHADES

EVERYONE LOVES SIMON TOFIELD'S cat, and the many scrapes that Simon depicts, using his economical but so sensitive line drawings.


There are plenty of Simon's Cat animated videos you can see on YouTube, but they are almost all in black and white. Here Simon shows how a drawing is coloured for reproduction in one of his books.

As you will see, the addition of colour is carried out leaf by leaf, through painstaking work with an electronic pen and multiple Photoshop layers.

It's all gorgeous stuff, with the naughty cat and its antics inspired by the Simon's pet cats, Teddy, Hugh, Jess and Maisie - of which he says that Hugh provides most of the ideas.
